The Leader '18 Team Complete Their Adventure!

Published Friday, 4th May 2018

The Leader '18 team have completed their epic adventure at sea! They have had a full-on week learning new skills aboard a beautiful Brixham trawler, dealing with every condition the weather could throw at them, including storms. The team completely embraced this challenge, and for many of them it was the first time on a sailing vessel. They learnt how to tie knots, navigate and plan a route using charts, prepare and hoist sails, and more importantly, despite their various injuries and disabilities, that nothing is impossible!

Towards the end of the week they were forced to use all their senses to navigate when they set off in the dark for a night sail. 65 Degrees North Patron and team member Jonathan said: "it went as planned and was well worth waiting. It was also a challenge for the visually impaired, whose ability to see anything just about disappears at night, so we were careful." "We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who made this endeavour possible, especially the Lest We Forget Association. The result has been 12 men, with ages ranging from 23 to 76, and with disabilities of similar span, coming together for a week that will have come some way to achieving our aim of Rehabilitation through Adventure!"
