Team MB'18: Days 11 & 12

On Day 11 of their epic challenge, Team MB'18 were on their bikes by 7am and cycled for almost 11 hours.

It was another big climbing day with 4,900ft ascent and covering 99km from Pemberton to Yirra Kartta Hut.

They came across the Gloucester tree, which is an enormous tree that was used as a lookout post for bush fires.

Two of the team chose to climb 50 meters to the top via the long metal stakes that have been driven into its sides, enjoying the spectacular views over the forest canopy.

The team arrived at the Yirra Kartta Hut at around 6pm.

Mark Douglas said:

"The hut was right next to a huge mound of granite which we climbed and enjoyed beautiful 360° views of the forest during sunset!" 

Team MB'18 set off early on Day 12 and had their first mechanical issue when, at around 10km into the day, one of the team broke two spokes on a relatively gentle descent.

A quick decision was made to send half of the team onto the next township to stock up on supplies before the shops closed, while the others remained behind to help with repairs.

Later, bridge works meant they had to make a diversion, but 9 hours after they set off they all arrived in Walpole.

Tomorrow will be their biggest day yet as they aim to cycle 115km!
