Team EVEREST 2019: Phakding to Namche BazaarPublished Sunday, 7th April 2019
The team were up at 7am for breakfast and ready to set off by 8am. Within minutes the skies opened and the rain came down.
The undulating trail became increasingly slippery and muddy and there was a constant flow of yaks and mules carrying their heavy loads up and down the mountain.
As the team made their way to the biggest town in the Khumbu Valley they crossed the beautiful icy blue Khumbu River several times via swing bridges.
They stopped for lunch in a Tea House around midday as the rain continued to fall.
There were rumblings of thunder in the distance as they set off again for Namche Bazaar.
The effects of altitude began to kick in as the unrelenting trail became steeper but there were plenty of water stops and opportunities to enjoy the stunning scenery and snow-capped mountains.
The rain eased off and the team reached Namche Bazaar - 'The Gateway to Everest' almost 9 hours after setting off.
At 3440m (11286 ft) Namche Bazzar is an historic trading hub, famous for its homemade yak cheese and butter, situated on the slope of an arch-shaped mountain.
The team enjoyed a well-earned dinner and were all ready for a good night's sleep by 9pm! This bustling little town will be home for the next couple of days as the team will spend some time acclimatising before moving to their next destination.
