Team EVEREST 2019: A Long, Hard Climb to Camp 3

The team have arrived at Camp 3!

They left Camp 2 at 8am this morning and after a long, hard climb in intense heat they arrived at Camp 3 several hours later.

Everyone is understandably tired but feeling well and morale is high.

Joe said:

“Much of the climb was seriously hot but fortunately there were not too many other climbers on the route. We were given our stoves when we arrived at Camp 3 and spent the first couple of hours melting snow for our food and drink.

We are now on oxygen which makes a huge difference, helping with our mental focus, recovery, staying warm and relaxing.”

If all goes to plan they will push on to the South Col early in the morning. At over 8000m (26300ft) Camp 4 is in the area known as the ‘death zone’. At this high altitude the levels of oxygen available are unable to support human life and the body starts to deteriorate quite quickly.

Safety and comfort is a priority for the team, and they will all continue to stay on oxygen now until they descend below Camp 3.
