JOGLE: On Their Way...

Published Saturday, 6th July 2019

The team are all on their way to Scotland ahead of the World record attempt!

Double amputee, Michael Swain MBE, aims to complete 874 miles from John O’Groats to Lands End (JOGLE) in under 4 days in an attempt to set a new hand cycling world record!

He will need to cover at least 212 miles a day whilst climbing more than 32,000 feet over the duration of the route!

Michael was injured in Helmand Province, Afghanistan in 2009 whilst serving for 3rd Battalion, The Rifles Regiment. As a result of an improvised Explosive Device (IED) he lost both legs above the knee and was the first British Military amputee to be fitted with Osseointegration Prosthetic limbs.

During his rehabilitation Michael tried many sports, however in 2017 he began to take more of an interest in hand cycling.

This extreme challenge will involve very long days on the bike with very little sleep:

“My main reason for doing this challenge is to raise money for 65 Degrees North and Blesma, The Limbless Veterans. Both of these incredible organisations have made a huge difference to me, and many of my fellow wounded comrades, helping us to crack on and live active, meaningful and fulfilled lives.” ~ Michael Swain

We would like to say a huge THANK YOU to all the sponsors and the support team for helping Michael with this epic challenge.
