#FollowTheFlag... Day 5
Published Saturday, 13th January 2018The team were pleased to report that they all passed their medical last night and were declared fit to continue with the ascent.
Al carefully packed Simon's flag in his backpack this morning before they all set off at 8am for the moderately steep but steady climb towards Camp 1.
It was a particularly tough day as they trekked for several hours over difficult terrain in the increasingly cold and inhospitable conditions.
The wind was quite fierce by the time they reached the camp, which at 4850m is higher than Mt Blanc!
The team were all feeling the effects of altitude and the thinning air but morale was good.
They spent an hour acclimatising before heading back down over the loose scree to Base Camp where it had began to snow.
Climbing high and sleeping low is essential for acclimatisation in these early stages and the team will spend another rest day at Base Camp tomorrow, which will increase their chances of reaching the summit!
The team are undertaking this epic challenge to raise funds for The Royal Marines Charity which provides the best possible through life charitable support for the Royal Marines, their families, veterans and cadets.
