*Countdown to EVEREST 2019: Tent Skills & Team Spirit!

Published Sunday, 3rd February 2019

Team Everest recently spent a couple of days on the Mont Blanc Massif preparing mentally, and physically, for the huge challenge that lies ahead of them.

In just 8 weeks time Rich, Brendan, Joe, Scott and Tom will set off to summit the highest mountain on Earth!

Mont Blanc provided them with perfect training conditions, and the opportunity to practise vital skills in sub zero conditions whilst at altitude, and more importantly time to work together as a team.

John Barry, ex-Royal Marine Captain and former Commanding Officer of the Mountain and Arctic Warfare Cadre, put the team through their paces and shared his vast knowledge and experience with them.

John is a highly experienced mountaineer who has led expeditions in all of the seven continents and can claim first ascents in five of them. Everest, Vinson, Denali, K2, Eiger North Face and a host of other well-known mountains all feature on his CV:

"Being able to erect a tent, or other form of shelter, quickly and efficiently in the most testing conditions could be the difference between success and failure.

Being able to light a stove and make a hot brew when you are exhausted and disorientated is essential for team morale and survival.... Team Everest are well-prepared and have the essential ingredient which will ensure they make it through the toughest moments - Team Spirit!"

The team are undertaking this extreme challenge to raise funds for The Royal Marines Charity
