The team have spent two days acclimatising in Namche Bazaar (3440m).
On the first day some of the team went to visit the Sherpa and Everest museums where they learned about the history and culture of the Khumbu Valley, and “watched the coldest slide show on Earth” according to Tom!
The rest of the team took the opportunity to catch up on some much needed sleep and recovery time. Joe has been fighting a chest infection since arriving in Nepal, so following a phone call to ourMedical Advisor in the UK, he started a course of antibiotics and rested up.
Heavy rain started around midday and continued throughout the night. Everyone was up for breakfast by 7am the following morning and ready to leave by 8am just as the rain eased off and the sun came out.
The team hiked to the Everest View Hotel (3880m) where they got their first glimpse of the World’s highest mountain!
It was an incredibly emotional moment and they couldn’t have asked for better weather to enjoy this special moment….. it seems almost surreal that they could be standing on top of it in just a few weeks time.
They then continued on into Khumjung where they visited the Samten Choling Monastery located at an altitude of 3790m. It was built by the early local Sherpas and claims to have a scalp belonging to a Yeti!
The team made their way back to Namche Bazaar stopping to see the Edmund Hillary School along the way.
It was a long day which took around 8 hours to complete, but everyone was feeling good and in very high spirits!
